Ashamed to be American…really?

After celebrating a relatively quiet and wonderful Independence Day, I find my self slightly appalled as I return to the normalcy of life and beginning of a new work week. While driving to a work appointment, I was listening to the local radio news station for traffic updates and information on the approaching Tropical Storm. I hear a reporter interviewing college students. He ask several students over this past Independence Day holiday if they are proud to be Americans. I must admit that I was blown away at their responses.

It is more and more evident that the biased news media and far left educators are doing a number on these young people. Parents have been duped and the students have been hoodwinked. Critical thinking seems to be a lost discipline. Many of those interviewed tell the reporter that they are ashamed to be called American. This statement is beyond belief to me and begs the question which of course the reporter failed to follow up with and ask. The follow up question should have been, If you are not proud to be an American, what nationality would you proud to be a part of? I really want to know their answers.

It is obvious that these advantaged and marred younglings have no idea of what it would be like to be a citizen any where else on the planet. History no longer teaches about masses of people fleeing their homelands and traveling to the United States of American for freedom and opportunity. Almost weekly I read of countless countries doing everything they can to attempt and send their best and brightest students to be educated in the good ole USA. If you have a pulse and are the slightest bit aware, you have heard of what is taking place on our southern border. It should not surprise anyone especially these students who should be exposed to current events that people from other countries would love to be US citizens and they are doing everything within their power (legal or illegal) to try and get in. This also would have been a great opportunity for the reporter to ask this question. Why do you think people from other countries are trying to get here?

I know that we here in America have our problems. We have always been a country of cultural and generational differences. These challenges should cause us to work harder together to ensure that past mistakes are not repeated. We have come along way as a country. That is what makes America wonderful. I have been fortunate to travel the globe and I can tell you with out any hesitation that there is no other place on this planet like America. Opportunities still abound. My hope and prayer for this current generation (Gen Z) is that you would take the time and learn about our nations past. And from the knowledge you acquire through careful study, I would ask that you develop principles and practices that would make us a better country, A country that we could all be proud to be a part of.

God bless America!
